Universal Music Acquires The International Rights To Franks Sinatra Albums

Universal Music just acquired the international rights to Frank Sinatra albums from the Sinatra Family and Warner Music,the Financial Times reports. Under the terms of the deal, Universal can reissue albums that Sinatra released for Reprise, the record label he founded in 1960 and later sold to Warner Music.

Those albums include: My Way, which is marking its 40th anniversary this year. (Warner maintains rights in North America). As the FT points out, deals like this one have become increasingly important in the music industry, which is coping with a dearth of new mega stars (Plus, the target Sinatra demographic is probably less likely to be illegally downloading tracks).
